The Saluda Living in Place Veterans Program (SLIP) is collecting worn, faded, and unwanted American flags for a special Flag Day program starting Tuesday, May 25th. Drop your flag in the special collection bin next to the stage in Saluda McCreery Park on Main Street by Monday, June 14th.
On Flag Day June 14th at 8:30 PM, come to the McCreery Park stage and learn and participate in the proper and honorable way to dispose of an American flag when it is no longer serviceable. The time-honored tradition of flag-burning will follow the guidelines of the American Legion and be a worthy tribute to the American flag and its symbolism.
The 15-minute program will be held by the event’s two Chairs, Frank McNutt, SLIP Board Member, and Owen Miller, SLIP Advisory Board member. Reverend Bob Parsons of Saluda Methodist Church will offer the closing prayer and blessing. Bring your own chair if you cannot or do not want to stand during the program.
All community members are invited to participate. We believe the ceremony will be of special importance to veterans and their families. The life of school children is enriched as much as our entire life. We hope you will join us.
