Nikki Dhawan from Western Australia has been named Retirement Village Manager of the Year 2021 by Leading Age Services Australia (LASA), sponsored by Mullins Lawyers.
Ms. Dhawan heads the retirement villages Bethanie Warwick and Joondonna in WA and won the highest award from a field of three other finalists.
Nikki has been commended for her ability to connect with everyone she comes in contact with and for recognizing that her residents’ connection with the outside community is fundamental to ensuring they maintain their independence and stay at home longer.
She was also commended for introducing openness and transparency that made residents feel recognized, heard and respected.
LASA General Manager Policy and Advocacy Tim Hicks said Nikki is an outstanding example of leadership in delivering the best experience to senior Australians living in a retirement home.
“Retirement services, and retirement living in particular, thrive on connecting to the community, and Nikki Dhawan shows how a good leader can develop and maintain that sense of community to keep residents engaged,” says Hicks.
“LASA congratulates Nikki on this well-deserved award and wishes her continued success in managing retirement homes.”
Mr. Hicks also paid tribute to the three finalists, Julie Renshaw, Stephen Pether and Lyn Ferguson, and said that together with Nikki Dhawan they were able to face the challenges of COVID-19 and provide excellent aging services in their communities.
LASA Retirement Living and Seniors Housing Principal Advisor, Paul Murphy, said Nikki was a deserved winner.
“Since joining Bethanie in 2015, she has developed a strong sense of community and trust among residents and has significantly improved five of Bethanie’s eleven senior village locations,” says Murphy.
